Back at the Track: The Return of a Casino Classic
Next Gaming's Sigma Derby was recently featured in Casino Player, highlighting the revival of one of casino gaming's most recognizable attractions and its return to the modern casino floor.
The article, titled "Back at the Track: Sigma Derby Returns to the Casino Floor," explores how Next Gaming, Highbrow Gaming, and VSR Industries have collaborated to recreate the beloved mechanical horse racing game while incorporating modern technology and casino operating requirements.
The new Sigma Derby preserves the excitement of the original, featuring five mechanical horses racing around a physical track while players cheer for their selections. Its classic quinella betting format allows players to predict which two horses will finish first and second, in either order.
While maintaining its traditional appearance and gameplay, the updated machine introduces modern conveniences, including bill acceptance, ticket-in/ticket-out functionality, and multiple player-selectable denominations.
The article also recognizes the engineering expertise behind the project, including two Next Gaming engineers who worked for Sigma during the development of the original game. Their firsthand knowledge has helped preserve the authentic mechanical racing experience while updating the technology behind it.
Above all, Sigma Derby brings something unique to today's casino environment: a shared gaming experience that attracts spectators, encourages interaction, and creates excitement around the racetrack.
By combining nostalgia with modern gaming technology, Next Gaming is bringing a classic casino attraction to a new generation of players.
